Disorders

There are several types of mental illnesses but a few more common are mood disorders such as Depression and Bipolar disorder which cause a major disturbance in an individual’s moods and emotions. Both of these illnesses can be very debilitating.

With Bipolar an individual experiences mood swings of feeling high (mania) to feeling very low (depression).

Another familiar illness is Schizophrenia which is a thought disorder.

With Schizophrenia persons thought process is disrupted. Perceptions of reality are different from the reality seen by others. Many live in a world distorted by hallucinations and delusions (false beliefs).

There is no cure for these illnesses but with new medications treatment is hopeful.
